香港由來都是一個移民城市。亦有賴這些移民的辛勤勞動，香港得已有今天的繁華。雖然我們被稱為「本土」華人，但我們清楚知道我們自本就是內地移民或其後裔。

在二十一世紀的今天，我們亦清楚看到，人不應再因其國族而被劃分。真正的區分其實應該在那些由上而下進行剝削的全球化精英和由下而上包含著所有色彩的我們之間。

所以，我們今天並不是去參與於移工的抗爭之中。這個從來都是我們為了保護人民尊嚴與確立公義的抗爭。更重要的是，這是為了建設一個包容所有的真正民主社會的抗爭。

因此，我們向你發出呼喚。請參與這個爭取所有由下而上的人民的尊嚴、公義與民主的抗爭。

throughout history, hong kong has always been a city built by migrants. it was and still is, through their laboring hard works that hong kong prospered. we (although we are the so-called “local” chinese) acknowledge the fact that we ourselves are descendants of or ourselves being migrants from mainland china.

into the 21st century, we now see clearly that borders should not be set between nations or races. Rather, the border should be set between the globalized elites who exploits from above and we the people of all colors from below.

therefore, it is not their struggle that we are joining, it has always been our struggle for peoples' dignity and true justice. nonetheless, a struggle for the true democracy that embraces all.

and we call on you to join the rally and march for dignity, justice and democracy for all people from below

This video letter was made on July 21, 2006 at the studios of Beirut
DC, a film and cinema collective which runs the yearly Ayam Beirut Al
Cinema'iya Film Festival. This video letter was produced in
collaboration with Samidoun, a grassroots gathering of various
organizations and individuals who were involved in relief and media
efforts from the first day of the Israeli attack on Lebanon. It was
also broadcasted at the Biennial of Arab Cinema, organized by the Arab
World Institute in Paris.

5 months after the struggle against WTO MC6 here at hong kong, life seems to have returned to normal.

but is this normal truly normal? after the liberation we experienced. after the understanding we've gained. what is this life that we've returned to? what have we brought with us from the struggle into this life from the other life.

then, we believed in the struggle and our solidarity. we put our heart and soul into the struggle and prayed that people united will never be defeated. now, what do we believed in. where do we rest our heart and soul and what do we pray for?.............

Organized by the Video Power and the Social Movement Resources Centre, HKFS

From 2 October 2005 to 20 November 2005, we have presented the 3rd Social Movement Film Festival (Hong Kong) in preparation for the WTO MC6 hoping to call up the local awareness on the issues.

Knowing that friends of all colors will join hands here in Hong Kong in December for the WTO MC6, we want to open our windows and take this chance to get together to share our dreams. After the WTO WC6, we have arranged to present two movies and the platform to converge and weave our web to further all ours struggles before we say our farewell.

Let’s join together on 19th and 20th December, 2005 so that ours struggles will be joined!

WTO - this invisible giant monster is showing its teeth; waving its claws, just like the time when the sky was overcastted by the dark clouds of the evil, and these old farmers are just like defenseless orphans ...... Would the mainstream society cares about them? Is the government aware of them? Let us ask ourselves, have we ever thought of their existence ...... Have we or have we not sometimes filled our rice bowl with more then we would have needed, have a couple of scoops, and then left 1,500 rice grains to waste in that lonely rice bowl ...... Even so, I still believe that the farmers shall survive, simply because they know how to feed......

No matter how is it being portrayed, the concern of the anti-globalisation movements is to acknowledge and to actualize the local struggles and their distinctive characters. Therefore, for the closing of the festival, we located and screen this documentary about the experiences, livings and growth of the residents of Wanchai in their years of struggle against the "urban renewal" project in Wanchai which challenged their livings......Right where the yellow banners fly......Their home within the H15 renewal plot.

In Taiwan, we have a saying, "Money is flooding up to the ankles of Taiwan", which is to tell of how rich Taiwan is. We want to invented a new saying, "Rice is flooding up to the ankles of Taiwan" to celebrate the maturity of the agricultural technology of Taiwan.

In this mountainous island of Taiwan without many plains, the population density ranked first around the world, how are these 2,000,000 mouths to be fed? Maybe not many people have thought of this question. Rice is the main food provision in Taiwan. Not only just produced enough for its own demands, Taiwan actually supplied more then its demand, did anyone appreciate such an extraordinary achievement? We should thank the dedicated rice farmers who always work industriously.

Let it be, documented the hard work and livings of three old rice farmers at the Houbi Village of Tainan County which is one of the largest rice growing region of Taiwan. Sparkling drops of sweats and grains of rice have been with them for decades. Through their hard work and livings, we could appreciate the wisdom of life. Also, we come to understand how subtle it is between, human and human, human and animals, human and gods, human and heaven, human and earth, to share this world, between heaven and earth, between sadness and happiness. Eventually, they shall be accomplished.

Under the sun, with the straw hat on his head, the old farmer is walking on the dyke with his bare feet. This path, this is the path he has been trekking, day after day, year after year. Pulling the weeds while stepping on mud, drops of sweat are flowing down his chin, through his body and finally melted into the earth that he has just fertilized yesterday. Looking at the setting sun, his eyes were filled by the luscious green of the stem and the sparkling gold of the budding grains in the glory of the sun, and the winkled face of the old farmer is expecting ...... Such a scene, maybe if we turn around carelessly, will never be seen again ......

Home where the Yellow Banners Fly

Throughout the experiences of, buying off; eviction; demolition, re-development seems to have become the standard practice for "urban renewal" in the past years.
However, the Urban Renewal Authority have turn a blind eye on their proclaimed mission to, to revitalise through enhancing and strengthening the socio-economic and environmental fabric for the benefit of our urban communities; to preserve by maintaining and restoring buildings of historical and architectural value, and to sustain local characteristics.

On the other hand, the Wanchai residents believe that there must be a way to actualize the "People Centred" urban renewal strategy introduced by the Urban Renewal Authority. The looked to different directions for information and inspirations, consulting views and ideas from different professionals; visiting universities and institutes; looking for examples local and aboard, and they found that successful development experiences actualizing "preserve and renew" is everywhere to be found.
Therefore, they organized, neighborhood assemblies, town planning workshop with specific details; public consultations; open exhibitions on the street; cell group meetings and visiting families and shops in the area. With these, they come to understand the problems that the neighborhood is facing in this "urban renewal" and their hopes on the development of the district. Finally, after numerous consultations; discussions and modifications, they submitted their own unprecedented town planning proposal for the area to the Town Planning Board worked out by the neighborhood.
The Town Planning Board had not accepted their proposal on technical reasons while acknowledging the participation of the neighborhood. But we think: a society where one cannot even have a saying on their own home cannot be a truly "democratic" society. And we also believe: a true "civil society" could only be realized when every citizen are actively expressing their thoughts and enter into discussions. Thus, the foundation of democracy will then be concretely based with authentic local meanings.

告全港警務人員書 - 一群香港市民

告全港警務人員書:
世貿協定殺人不淺勿為財團充當劊子手

十二月世貿部長級會議在港舉行在即，社會氣氛漸趨緊張，而我們一班市民，政府雖亦承認舉辦世貿無甚「實質」好處，但可「提高形象」，故在發放誤導訊息廣告的同時，亦向警隊施加強大的壓力，而警方高層亦有意識有步驟地向傳媒發放「將有暴亂」的訊息，我們恐怕此舉為前線警方員工製造壓力，亦在你們腦中製造強化某些形象，讓你們屆時誤將示威遊行的人民定義為「瘋狂的暴民」，造成前線警務人員極大的壓力。我們恐怕，你們將因而採取極端及非常之措施，最終會釀成不必要的緊張氣氛及暴力場面，產生無謂的暴力，而首當其衝的亦必是前線的警隊人員，而不會是那些有意發放誤導訊息的高層。

因此，身為一群對世貿有認識的市民，我們深感自己身為香港公民的責任，是把另一方面的訊息發放給你們，希望你們明白那些反對世貿的人民，不是無故發瘋，而是一群因為世貿的不平等條約而扼殺生命及尊嚴的無辜市民。由於世貿自始就將保護環境、勞工及一切弱勢社群的條約視為世貿的屏障，故聲稱為保護自由貿易的原則，而迫使參與國取消上述所有保護性法例，令本來生活無著工人、小農及普羅階級生活雪上加霜。

就舉今年世貿最受爭議的議題為例：為何美國政府就可以每年以鉅額補貼美國大農企，只要巧立名目便不會被世貿裁定「違反公平貿易」？此舉令到美國本身的小農都難以生存，更枉論其他東南亞和南美洲小國了──大家如何與那些因補貼而變成極低廉的價錢來「公平競爭」？許多發展中國家官商勾結，輸送利益，為開拓工業產品的國外市場，便無情地犧牲農民生計，農村的破壞──將來當全球糧食都操控在歐美等大國手中時，大家要怎辦呢？大家可以想像，本來已經難以回本的韓國農民，又怎受得起開放三倍大米市場的傷害？人不是齒輪，不可能國家說「經濟轉型」，就會忽然變了另一套機件內的齒輪。上次世貿部長級會議，韓國農民李京海先生不惜自殺抗議，就是要警醒世人：世貿殺害農夫──事實上已有數不清的農夫死於世貿的不平等條約下，可惜，眼見李京海先生以生命換取停止世貿會議的成果，今年就要在香港化為烏有了。

今年十二月的另一爭議性議題，就是版權法與公共服務業的私營化問題。各位不要以為版權法就只是簡單地保護作者，其實最主要是保衛有能力購買某產品或發明之版權的大公司的利益──而未必是其作者！最嚴重的問題，其實近日在無國界醫生四處張貼的廣告中可略知一二──發展中國家每四分鐘便有人死於可醫治之疾病，因為缺乏藥物。無國界醫生的廣告比較含蓄──為何會無藥物？只因為藥物的版權為大藥商壟斷，藥價貴不可攀，才有那麼多人會死。

至於公共服務業私營化的問題，其實已在香港漸漸發生，大家想像一下：一個地區的醫療、教育、福利、公共設施、環境、房屋等等，都一一開放給企業管理，這會是一個怎樣的世界？西隧加價，連政府都不可以說什麼，這事件，其實已經在向香港人亮了私有化的警號，可惜，公眾還未察覺到。

各位可以想像一下：假如五十年前，在倫敦召開國際會議，決定將中國變成名存實亡的國家，決定令中國在經濟上淪為美、日等國家的附庸國，身為中國國民，又會簡單認為倫敦「只不過是一個開會的地方」嗎？

希望各位前線警隊人員，可以多花時間去了解反對的世貿的人為何會反對？到底世貿做了什麼讓一些工人、小農不肯安坐家中，而不惜千里迢迢而來到香港，誓要阻止世貿開會？而香港這個提供會議場地讓強國和財團在高貴的會議桌上決定窮人窮國命運的城市，在受害人心目中，又是怎樣的位置？
我們不知道政府和警隊的高層為各級警務人員提供了什麼樣的資訊，或者是否過份強調「恐怖襲擊」或「瘋狂暴徒」的可能性。當然，在十二月的反世貿示威中，如果發生任何事，也是前線人員首當其衝和背黑鍋，大家是否需考慮，是否需要如此為大企業來賣命呢？

我們誠摯地希望，在明白這些事實後，各位警務人員，請你們認真考慮屆時的工作性質和執行態度，當你們面對每一個黃皮膚、白皮膚、黑皮膚或棕皮膚的示威者時，除了想像他們可能會做的行為，也請你們同時想起，他們每個人因世貿而受的痛苦和壓搾，他們肩負的家鄉父老的眼淚和血汗，他們的下一代將要面對的淒楚，還有，當這個世界日益受到這種不斷追求效益發展的全球化下，我們所有人將要承受的惡果。

各位街坊、各位朋友：

我們，學聯社會運動資源中心(稱八樓)和錄影力量，將會於11月20日在廟街榕樹頭公園舉辦第三屆自由文化音樂節及第三屆社運電影節閉幕電影《黃幡翻飛處》。

我們希望大家到時可以抽時間落嚟，睇睇演出、睇睇戲、睇睇不同個人及團體的攤檔，又或者俾俾意見、同我們或者其他街坊傾傾偈。

整天的活動，我們希望在面對資本壟斷、官商勾結的大環境下，在民間共同尋找很多出路的可能。

好緊要的一件事是，希望大家明白理解我們當日的活動好難會令所有朋友都鍾意，所以如果有什麼令你不高興的地方，請大家多多包涵。當然，如果可以的話，真的好希望你可以嘗試聽聽我們講什麼。其實我們都只不過是想透過我們直接的參與，去摸索怎樣去實踐一個本來就屬於公眾的坊里既地方，有沒有再建立其他東西的可能。

八樓及錄影力量上

是什麼…？？
自由文化音樂節一直都是以「自由」做主題，以文化媒界作為介入及參與的途徑，最終希望探索如果可以真正實行一個由人民自主的文化建立，以及「自由」怎樣可以落實到大眾人民層次裡的想像。

點解會係榕樹頭攪？
其實，我們選擇在廟街同眾坊街交界的榕樹頭公園來舉行今屆音樂節和電影節閉幕，並非是一個隨便的選擇。在象徵意義的層面上，廟街紮根著香港本土文化、眾坊代表一個屬於公眾的坊里、榕樹頭講故仔代表著文化傳承，這些令我們覺得這個個地方好有意思，更加令我們希望可以係一個如此過癮的地方，透過我們參與，表達我們對香港本土文化的尊重，及摸索本土文化再發展的可能性。

社運電影節是什麼？
今年的社運電影節就以全球經濟一體化、各大國政府、如世貿這國際經貿組織、各大跨國企業商貿集團力推的自由經貿為主題，部份放映的電影是講述，他們口講可以消除貧窮的自由經貿引至的貧富懸殊，及這類講法裡面的好多問題。

部份電影就紀錄世界各地民間自發抗爭裡面，多種不同的選擇及可能性。至於閉幕電影《黃幡翻飛處》，就紀錄左一直強調「以人為本」和「社區保育」的灣仔利東街街坊的多年抗爭及社區重建經驗。

This year, the closing of the 3rd Social Movement Films Festival will coincide will the 3rd Freedom Music & Art Fair. Such arrangements intended to bring together view and thoughts on the global economic integration expressed in different means and medias. So that, mutual appreciation, communication and discussions could be facilitated.

We've chosen the "Banyan Tree Park" as our venue for the closing screening and the fair because the place carries a strong local ambience and is a popular gathering point for the local neighborhood. Its location on the Public Square Street does have its symbolic meanings.

It is important to distinguish between the structural factors of a corporation and the actions/impacts of actions taken by individual corporations…
What did we learn from THE CORPORATION?
What are the relationships (explicit or not) between corporations and government?

Money is power.

MARKETING
How do individuals compete with the aggressive marketing campaigns of large corporations, who have huge amounts of capital behind them? How do we resist and critically analyze the facts behind the marketing hype? How can we raise our children to be critical consumers and thinkers in this context of mass marketing? What is ethical/not ethical? Who decides? What is being marketed-goods, but also values? -services, but also worldviews?

MEDIA
Who is controlling the media? Is media a vehicle for marketing ideologies? Whose ideologies are being marketed? What alternative sources of information do we have access to? How powerful is the media in shaping our values? -our understanding of the world? To what extent can we control what we are/are not exposed to? –what about our children?) What space is there to reject/re-shape our relationship to the media How can we resist the powerful effects of the media? How is media related to perception management? To corporate power? Marketing? Education? Perpetuation of mainstream values?

EDUCATION
What is education? Who is doing the educating, and who is being educated? Are education systems a reflection of values re: hierarchy, power, money? How do we perceive education?
-Is education a ‘way out’ for people living in poverty?
-Is education a membership card into the mainstream economic and social system?
-Is education a way to change the system by engaging it from within?
Why is so much value placed on institutionalized education? Is it time to re-conceptualize what we mean by education, andwhat skills we want to develop through education? How we can create/allow space for these skills to be developed?

What is happening within our education systems today? (HK, China?) Are students learning/encouraged to think critically? Are they questioning what they are being taught/told? Or are they just being trained to fill a role in society, to perpetuate the economic and social world orders that exist? Are we educating a new generation of obedient consumers? What are some of the implications of this?

How can education be used as a vehicle for action (long-term)~for developing critical thinking as a means of resistance, for raising awareness and sharing ideas for alternative ways of organizing? For disseminating alternative information?

What can we do as individuals in society to respond to the ‘threats” of WTO? How can we organize and mobilize to create a critical response that has impact? (Short-term/long-term; re-direct/resist)How do we engage with ourselves in a process of education/awareness? How do we engage others and create spaces for engagement without simultaneously creating hierarchy (conscientização by the people, for the people, as put forth by Paulo Freire)? Where do we seek sources of information? What sources of information are accessible to us? What communication strategies can we employ to share information within the system? What strategies can we employ to communicate outside the system? ~with the mainstream? ~with governing bodies?

There is no ‘one enemy’ out there. Each individual, each community has its own ‘enemy’, its own stuggles/challenges. Can we think in terms of localized struggles against common themes e.g. globalization? How can we share experiences with other struggles in other parts of the world…what do we mean by solidarity? e.g. Zapatista movement ®what can we learn from the Zapatistas? How did the Zapatistas create alternative systems in the face of government oppression? How were the new systems managed and adapted over time to meet emerging needs? What communication strategies did they use? How did they engage in self-education? Self-governance? What can we learn from their experiences, and how can we use this knowledge to further our own cause here in HK?

We need to be aware of the different sides of mobilization~ who is mobilizing, and/or who is being mobilized? Where is the power? Who is making decisions? Whose goals/agenda are being met? When actions are issue-based, the “public” can be exploited to showcase an “issue” or “platform” by individuals or groups with voice/power. People can exercise their own voice/power by bringing out their localized issues/struggles when participating in actions/rallies. Together, the diversity of issues raised speak for the people, and are an expression of solidarity towards each other as well as non-participating groups engaged in similar struggles.

What can we as individuals do in our own lives to reject the principles of WTO and neo-liberalisation? What lifestyle choices, consumer choices, actions, etc., can we make? Where is the balance? This balance may be personal, but may have far-reaching implications for society. Where are the compromises and how do we prioritize the different values that inform our choices. Do our values differ when we consider them from different perspectives (on a personal level, or a societal level)? Do we choose for example, to buy local, to buy organic, to boycott buying from big corporations? Where is the balance? How effective are these actions? On what scales can we evaluate the effectiveness of actions? How is this balancing act played out across time scales/generations ~in the education of our children; caring for our parents, as we represent them as consumers? Do our decisions/actions affect the values of our children? What actions stem from these learned values? How do these actions affect change in the future, directly or indirectly? ~through market demand? ~through direct actions? ~through education?

ACTION
What actions can we engage in? What are the objectives of an action? What and to whom are we trying to communicate? What time scale does an objective operate on? (e.g.short-term~block a road leading to a WTO meeting; long-term~re-thinking communication strategy to engage government) Objectives can simultaneously operate on many different time scales. What physical scale does an objective operate on? (personal, local, global) What are the cultural context considerations that need to be taken into account? How do we find a balance to address the need for actions on different physical and time scales? How do we coordinate actions between people & groups operating on different physical and time scales? Do we need to coordinate, or should this happen spontaneously? Who makes decisions?

What motivates an action? How do the different forms of motivation affect an action? What do different individuals/groups taking part in the action stand to lose? Is the action born of fear or despair? Hope? Is it important to understand the differing motivations within a group collaborating on an action? Is the action even a collaboration, or a spontaneous event? Or a complex combination of both?

What are some of the consequences of an action? Was the action effective? On what time scale? On what physical scale? What are the criteria for evaluation? Who decides on the criteria for evaluation? Is there opportunity for critical reflection on an action? What are some unintended consequences? Can they be considered positive/negative? Should we move away from dichotomies of positive/negative? How is an action portrayed by different media? Can we cooperate with the media to use it as a vehicle for achieving an objective? Can the media be trusted? How much effort can we put into perception management?

How can we reflect on the consequences of an action? How was it portrayed and perceived? What are some of the repercussions? Do activists “box” themselves, or are they “being boxed” into a convenient perception category of “troublemaking leftists” through direct actions? Who is responsible for this? The media? An uncritical public? Activists? Should this possible outcome be a factor in deciding whether or not to engage in direct action? Are rallies and protests becoming too “predictable/obedient” to be effective? Are rallies and protests becoming too “radical/violent” to be effective? What are some possible consequences, if no direct action is taken? Is it more dangerous to be passive? Why? Where is the balance when the costs and benefits of action/no action are weighed out? Who decides?

What other forms of resistance can be exercised? Is action getting too much attention relative to other forms of resistance? What objectives can rallies/protests/civil disobedience achieve? Under what circumstances?What strategies can be employed to increase the effectiveness of an action? What is appropriate for an individual, in their context? Each individual makes their own decision regarding what is appropriate from them…

Important Point!! Its dangerous to generalize!! About “the activists”, or “the Hong Kong people”! …Although generalizations can lead into questions of what is cultural identity? For example, ~What do many Hong Kongers identify with as part of their cultural identity? And the summary below uses this generalization…(!)

CONNECTIONS TO HONG KONG

How are struggles in other parts of the world related to the Hong Kong experience? How do we make the connections? To what degree is the facilitator/individual responsible for drawing these connections? Many Hong Kongers relate international trade with better livelihoods for themselves and their families (trade = better business = healthy economy = higher standard of living) How do we identify/reveal/expose some of the negative aspects of the WTO, in ways that people in HK can relate to? What do we want to show? Human/social costs? Environmental costs? Economic costs?

What values do the WTO’s structure and current operation reflect? How is power structured, and who makes decisions? What room is there for input? Feedback? Sharing? Discussion? Access to information? Do these values match those of the people whose lives are inextricably linked to the national economy and therefore the WTO? What implications does the WTO have for democracy? ~human rights?

What can we learn from other people’s experiences, approaches, struggles, and how do we translate this knowledge and make it appropriate to our/the Hong Kong context? Is globalization not a global issue? We may be residents of citizens of a country, but are we not also members of global society? What responsibilities do we have/feel we have to ensure the rights all people? What do we understand solidarity to mean? How can we make our voices heard, so that our values are reflected in the policies that affect our lives?
E.g.’s discussed: HK privatization of postal services, housing management, re-location of garment factories to China®who bears the benefits and who bears the cost?

Can we think of WTO as being modeled on Hong Kong?? Hong Kong to many people is the very essence of trade- its economy isa perfect platform to showcase the possibilities of a free market? If WTO is modeled on Hong Kong, what does this say about other places, whose markets are less developed? What does this say about Hong Kong as a site of resistance?

AGENTS OF CHANGE

Who is leading the move towards greater and greater concentration of wealth and power? Is the system structured/designed in such a way to perpetuate this direction towards monopolization of power (e.g.World Bank, WTO)? Does there need to be a leader, or just compliance and/or passivity to keep us going down this track?

Who is leading the resistance? It is probably overly simplistic to say “the resistance”… Do we want to have leaders, or can we break down these hierarchies? What alternative organizational structures are possible? What decision-making methods can be employed? How can power be equitably distributed and shared? How can participation in decision making be encouraged? E.g. what can we learn from the Zapatista Caracoles model of community decision-making power?

Sorry, there won’t be a film this Wednesday, AUGUST 17th, as it turns out that the film we were hoping to show (Life and Debt) has no English subtitles, and even native English speakers have a hard time understanding the content due to the heavy Jamaican accents!

Instead, we will have shows on the following two consecutive Wednesdays: AUGUST 24th and 31st. These next two films about the Zapatista movement are a departure from the previous introductory films about WTO, globalization, corporate control and media. Having conducted a brief overview of the above issues, we now hope to consider some alternatives and examples of resistance as demonstrated through the struggles in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. From the indigenous resistance 500 years ago to Zapatismo, the Zapatistas grow from a resistance movement into a struggle for self-rule.

WTO: A Threat to Humanity is an in-depth look at the history and

current policies of the World Trade Organization.  A Threat to

Humanity (an indigenous/non-indigenous co-production) was

originally made for indigenous and campesino communities in

Mexico and Central America who wanted an explanation of WTO

and how it's policies are affecting their communities.  Among the

issues discussed are NAFTA's impact on corn production in

Mexico, the effects of genetically modified seeds on world

agricultural systems, agricultural subsidies in developed countries

星期三晚放映系列為一個公開及免費的每月電影、錄像及紀錄片放映系列活動。由現在至本年度十二月於香港舉行之世界貿易組織部長級會議，我們希望籍此放映系列引發有關新自由主義、資本主義以至有關之反抗及不同選擇的討論……

Around the world, the ideology of the 'open market' or 'neoliberalism' is spread and enforced by powerful institutions such as the WTO, IMF, and World Bank. But what are these institutions, and what do they do?

放眼世界可見，以世界貿易組織，國際貨幣基金會及世界銀行為首的權威性組織不斷地宣揚及強制推行着「自由市場」及「新自由主義」的觀念。但這些組織究竟代表着甚麼，它們所推行的又是甚麼呢？

If we are to believe the propadanda, their ideology of corporate globalization is based on values that we should all find desirable. Markets, after all, are said to be 'free', are associated with 'choice' and 'diversity', are linked to individual autonomy and democracy, and will lead to enrichment and an end to poverty. The 'free market', we often hear, is 'normal' and 'fair', a default setting that does not reflect any bias or ideology, and thus its spread will signal the end of conflict and the creation of a 'global village'.

假如我們選擇相信他們的講法，我們就得相信他們的企業全球化觀念是建基於一套值得我們追求的價值觀。我們就得相信，市場實應建基於「選擇」、「多元性」、「個體自主」、「整體民主」以至最終達至「生活質素提升」及「消除貧窮」，因此「市場」應要「自由」發展。我們經常接收到「自由市場」就是「正常」及「公平」的訊息，「自由市場」的預設安排並不反映任何偏見或意識型態，故此，它的擴散將代表着紛爭的消除及「地球村」的建立。

Hong Kong has already been deeply embedded in this 'world economy' for decades- from the days of drug-running colonial gunboats to the time of Mickey Mouse, we have heard that global capitalism has taken up the noble burden of bringing sun to the shadows and building for us 'The Happiest Place on Earth'.

由殖民者運輸鴉片的炮艦打開港口的年代，直至米奇老鼠即將登陸香港的今天，香港已深植於這「世界經濟體系」之中一世紀之久，我們經常聽說：全球化資本主義背負着以陽光照耀陰暗，與及為我們建設,「地球上最快樂的地方」的祟高使命。

Yet look around us, at our own city, and around the world. Do we see poverty being eliminated with the liberalization of trade and growth of the GDP? Or do we see that more and more of our fellow citizens are becoming structurally redundant and dropping below the poverty line with the growth of the prospering economy? Are we free individuals with control over decisions that affect us, or do corporations and other unaccountable institutions have a greater say in our lives and communities than we do? Do we see diversity, or monoculture and a saturation of the market by its most powerful players? Do we see the solidarity of a 'global village' developing between each other and our neighbours, or greater divisions of rich and poor, greater competition between people, and scapegoating of marginalized people, migrants and foreigners? Do we see conflicts ending, or is ours a world that is edging closer to destroying itself every day? And do we really see the freedom to change this and to create alternatives, or are we faced with an ideology that refuses to consider the possibility of something else, something more desirable?

但當我們回頭看清楚我們身處的地方，以至全世界，我們真的看到貿易自由化及國內產總值增長消除了貧窮嗎？或是，真實的現象反而是：在經濟發展持續增長的情況下，越來越多我們的市民朋友們，被結構性地擠壓至貧窮線以下呢？作為個體，我們是真的可以掌握那些將影響我們生活的決定呢？或是容忍那些商貿大企業及無公開問責性的機構，對我們的生活及社區有着比我們更大的發言權呢？我們真的看見多元化嗎？或是市場反被那些壟權者推動的一體化所飽和了呢？我們看到團結我們與鄰人的「地球村」的發展嗎？還是見到每況越下的貧富懸殊，人與人之間的競爭，以至把邊緣社群、移民及他者塑造成代罪羔羊的現象呢？我們看到紛爭的消除嗎？或是我們看到一個正步向自我毀滅的世界呢？在這現況下，我們看到嘗試改善以至開創不同選擇的自由嗎？或是我們正面對着一套拒絕考慮其他意見和渴求的可能性的觀念呢？

Has history ended? Is the fundamentalism of the 'free market' truly the model, the only way ahead? Where are the voices of opposition? What are they saying?

歷史是否已經終結？「自由市場」的原教旨主義是否就是最終的模範及唯一出路？哪裏有反對聲音？他/她們的聲音在訴說著甚麼？

In A Land Called Chiapas , there raged a storm from the mountains to open up a window for the movement of the movements. From the Showdown in Seattle to Kilometer 0 in Cancun , we saw This is What Democracy Looks Like and that humanity's struggle to resist The Fourth World War is on. Resistance raged as The Navigators charted the map of The Corporation , and a pots-and-pans struggle in Argentina created The Take to occupy, create, and seize future from the bottom up.

在一個名叫齊亞柏斯的地方，那裹吹起了一道來自山區的風潮，衪為一場眾多不同運動互動而成的運動吹開了一道窗口。由西雅圖的攤牌現場至坎昆的零公里，我們看到這就是民主的面貌，及因人民的掙扎和抵抗而展開的第四次世界大戰。其中，導航員描繪了大企業的航圖，亞根延的飯碗奮抗路線如何行進至一個由下而上的工人當家去回奪，開創以至掌握將來的標示。

While our airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human story of this global conflict remains untold.

Directed by the makers of "This Is What Democracy Looks Like" and "Zapatista", "Fourth World War" is the product of over two years of filming on the inside of movements on five continents. From the front-lines of conflicts in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'the North' from Seattle to Genova, and the 'War on Terror' in New York, Afghanistan, and Iraq, it is the story of men and women around the world who resist being annihilated in the war against humanity.

Produced through a network of independent media and activist groups worldwide, this is a truly global film from a truly global movement.

現今我們的大氣電波絮絮不休地講著什麼戰爭的可能性，毫不厭煩地講著那些軍政權貴想告訴大家的事情，然而，一個由人民自述的全球衝突仍有待被聆聽。

《第四次世界大戰》的製作班底，是曾製作This Is What Democracy Looks Like(《民主就是這個樣子》)及Zapatista(《查巴丁士達遊擊隊》)的製作人員。影片內容結集了歷經兩年橫跨五大洲於各運動內部所紀錄的故事而成。由「南方」的墨西哥、阿根廷、南非、巴勒斯坦、南韓，以至「北方」的西雅圖、日內瓦的抗爭前線及紐約、阿富汗、伊拉克的反恐戰爭──面對一個滅絕人文尊嚴及其生存空間的文化經濟侵略戰爭，各地的人民都使出了反抗的招數。

本片由世界各地的獨立媒體及社會行動群體協力共同製作，實為一套由一個真正的全球化運動所產生的全球化紀錄片。
